Cindy Alger grew up in a creative household – her father was a woodturner and her mother was a crochet artist using bright contrasting colours. The family hosted many visiting artists and sculptors.
This rich pallet nourished Cindy’s artistic career since an early age.
Cindy gained her Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in Sculpture with Honours in Painting, from Auckland University, Aotearoa New Zealand, in 1990. In her degree she also studied traditional Maori art motifs and symbols.
Her painting style has been inspired by these influences: Australian cartoon artist Michael Leunig, French Impressionist painter Pierre Bonnard and popular British street artist Banksy.
Cindy’s paintings have been exhibited widely from Lopdell House in Titirangi, to many Coromandel and Auckland galleries. She has also exhibited in a Fletcher-Challenge ceramic exhibition at the Auckland Museum. For nineteen years she illustrated a local gardening calendar, and she has also illustrated a children’s book called “ Casey the Corosaur Comes to Coromandel.”
Cindy continues to produce her locally popular unique art with a vision that delights.
“I make art with the hope that the finished work will bring a sense of happiness to viewers.”
